Whose war?

Found this interesting picture and it really got me thinking…

Firstly, it’s absolutely true. While our sons and daughters are thousands of miles away risking their lives for us we are at the mall shopping.

However, our sons and daughters are thousands of miles away risking their lives for us SO we can go shopping. They are there to defend our freedoms and way of life. *

It feels to me a bit like one of those optical illusion puzzles where it’s only one image but if you look one way you see a vase and if you look the other you see two faces.

If the US military wanted to do more PR work they need to set up those display boards (for conferences, and things) with the picture of a person, a quick description of him/her and a tag line at the bottom that says something like, “Risking her life so that you can go on with your daily routines.” (Ok, that sucks but I can’t think of anything more witty or powerful right now… but you get the idea.)

* I’m not saying I’m for or against any of the conflicts that the USA are engaged in at the moment. However, I fully understand the need for the military to defend our country and so this can be applied generally.
